The Outer Worlds: Maybe Third Time Might be a Charm

Warning: Spoilers

I have been struggling with my Outer Worlds game journal which caused me to stop writing altogether. It’s not because the game is not entertaining, rather that my journal isn’t. I’ve decided to abandon it and move on.

The character I settled on is a disgraced corporate agent hoping to redeem himself working for the Board. I thought it would be fun to write out a series of cynical reports to no one in particular considering after 70 years his cover was so deep no one was aware of him at all. Difficulty was set on hard this time.

He was supposed to be a charming yet treacherous assassin and handgun specialist. He did throw in with the board and ended the game running the Lifetime Employment Program under Sophia Akande’s leadership. A corporate hired gun all the way. This play through was quite different than my first one. Even small effects from doing quests in a different order were amusing.

I could not stay disciplined when assigning points however. He was supposed to have high stealth, handgun and dialogue skills and he did to a degree but oh there’s hacking and lockpicking. His decisions sometimes caused issues with the crew and he was so reliant on them that I invested too much in leadership skills. I rationalized that he was lonely and disoriented and needed that emotional attachment for once in his life. Of course, other than the resentful Felix they all left him in the end.

He was also a bit of a failure as a stealth assassin. He never one shot anybody. He settled for a gun and run style which required high companion management. This was engaging but for the second time I had created an ill defined character that I wasn’t entirely fond of hence the writing issues.

The game is short enough I was up for one replay but long enough I’m not keen for a third one. It’s a Bethesda Fallout stripped of it’s worst flaws and fun to play. I will definitely return to it when some DLC is released.

In the meantime I have been playing Assassin Creed Odyssey’s The Fate of Atlantis DLC.
